T.B.I.Y (Tech Beever It Yourself): Playstation 3 Controller Stand

Whilst tidying my (very) messy shed, I came across some parts from an old Three-Tier Floating AV Unit that never got used. I was going to throw it away, but as I sorted through the junk, I came to the realisation that I could turn some of the pieces into something else...

What I Used:

  • Pliers
  • 1 x M10x200mm Bolt
  • 4 x End Caps From Three Tier AV Unit
  • Aluminium Block From Three Tier AV Unit
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Super Glue (all purpose, plastic to metal etc)

I took two of the end caps and super glued them to a block of aluminium

Once both sides are on, leave to dry

The small knobs are the screw caps, we won't be needing these

Using pliers, break the screw caps off the other two end caps,
so the sides are completely flat

Then, place the end caps against the block, and simply thread the
M10x200mm bolt through the sides, so it comes out the other end.
These will now be the legs of the stand

Tighten the bolt, using a screwdriver to secure the other end

Do a quick strength test, the legs shouldn't move

Then try with the PS3 Controller

The curve of the aluminium block is perfect for the PS3 Controller

So there you go, our T.B.I.Y Playstation 3 Controller stand. As you can see in the pictures, I managed to get it covered in saw dust from the shed (my Jigsaw makes a lot of mess), but a quick polish and it'll look nice and shiney.

T.B.I.Y Time: Around 10-minutes
