PvP Updates: The First 2015 Update

Greetings! It is that time of the month (no, not 'that' time) where we delve into the world of Podcast vs Player and tell you about all the fun and shenanigans we've been up to over the last few weeks. Oh what Joy!

It would be hard to start the post off without mentioning the fact we've been balls deep in the Evolve Closed Beta. We love Evolve, let's just make that clear. But, I (Cal) hate the new monster they've added! It's so overpowered, fast, strong and just nearly impossible to kill.

I don't like it.
What's worse, is that it's not as large as the other monsters, making it even harder to shoot, trap or just about anything once it starts teleporting around like a jacked up Nightcrawler on acid. Myself, Dan and medic extraordinare Rick, embarked on the task of hunting down monsters, trapping like pros, supporting like boss' and assaulting like a raging lunatics. Well, Dan and Rick did, I just got lost, died and complained a lot. But, I did manage to actually help a good deal of times, and fared infinity better as a team-mate than some of the people we were lumbered with. Which brings me to my biggest gripe, and yes, I'm fully aware this is a Beta, but c'mon 2K games, enough with the shitty matchmaking, give us the ability to play (easily) with friends. We had to fanny around for a good 40mins, waiting for people to drop out and then pray that we could get the last man (usually me) into the team.

That aside, it's still a great game so far, and playing with friends, as a team, will make it even better.

Not much on the old 'behind the scenes' news front, we've been busy thinking up new content, recording new stuff, revisiting old stuff and filming lots of new content, but we've been pretty low key on the developer side of things compared to the last update. We're still in talks with Blu Pix, the developers/creators of an upcoming game called Chibis Bomba, and we are always reaching out to developers and publishers (actually, a big thanks to Namco Bandai for our review copy of Tales of Hearts R), and we are going to push that harder and further this year, in the hope of maybe getting you guys some treats, or even just to introduce you to a game you may not be aware of.

Speaking of new games, towards the end of 2014, I took the plunge and got myself an Xbox One. Yes, after all the shit I gave it on the show, I decided to get one, mainly for Sunset Overdrive, but you know what -- I don't hate it. I'll be honest, I still think the Playstation 4 is a much better all-rounder, and every multi-platform game will still be purchased for Sony's wonder box (or PC), but for the Xbox exclusives, well, there's only one place I can get those. I just hope there's enough titles to warrant the purchase.

But, I have Sunset Overdrive, Halo: Master Chief Collection, Grand Theft Auto V and Shadow of Mordor (my game of 2014) and I'm really enjoying the Xbox One.

What I'm not enjoying, is the storage.

I brought this up on the last two podcasts, but it's still aggravating me that with just four games, my hard-drive is at 49.3% full. Sure, I've got a 1TB hard-drive plugged in now, but that's not the point, I shouldn't have to fork out additional money to play games I've paid for, just so I don't have to delete them, at least not this early on anyway.

So what am I playing! Well, to be honest, I've got so many games going at the moment, that it's actually quite hard to get the time in to fully enjoy them all.

So far I'm playing through the following -- Alien: Isolation, Sunset Overdrive, Halo: Master Chief Collection, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Grand Theft Auto V, Far Cry 4, Super Smash Bros. Wii U, The Last of Us Remastered, and The Evil Within.

And that's not taking into account the games I'm playing with Dan, such as the Evolve Closed Beta, Garry's Mod, Minecraft, Space Engineers, and DayZ and not even including stuff I'm playing on my phone, such as Oddworld: Strangers Wrath and Hitman GO and God only knows what Dan's playing!

To be honest, it's a surprise we get any work done. But we do!

Over the last month, we've churned out a pretty pennies worth of content:

So have a look and shower us with love. OR hate. You're choice.

We've also had another awesome giveaway, Congratulations to Joshua St. John (@jstjohn83) for winning our Playstation 4 Evolve giveaway! Joshua bagged himself a code for the Evolve Closed Beta, which, as you can imagine, made him very happy.

Sadly, this month also marked the death of Dan's PC.

Well, not really, but he suffered a slight hiccup that rendered his PC useless for a short while, with both the engineers that built the beast AND Microsoft stumped as to what the problem was. Luckily, Dan is not a complete tool, and managed to save his enormously expensive pimp machine -- at the cost of everything that was on it. Including Bum Base Prime on Minecraft, the entire worlds of Magi-Craft and Mine o'saurs and our two stations and all our ships on Space Engineers.

But, at least we'll have fun re-building them all...right?

Anyway, we've got loads more coming up, plus, this little dude will be making another appearance really soon...

He's the hairy one. More than once he’s been described as both ruggish AND dashing. Cal was once a born again unicyclist, until he discovered that he wasn't. True story. You can find him writing for publications such as BlogcriticsVentureBeatGamesBeatFor The GeekHe also has two books published, which you can buy with your hands and read with your eyes. Imagine that!.
